My journey into voiceover truly kicked off right here in South Florida, a place I love.
I originally hosted the midday show on 103.5 The Beat while also serving as Music and Program Director. When the station briefly flipped formats in 2010, I knew I wanted to stay in SoFlo and explore a career beyond radio—one that would allow me to showcase my talents, including my work on-camera. I leaned on the network I’d built in the radio and music world, which led me to start voicing stations across the country and becoming the voice of major world tours, album releases, even Broadway shows. I’m incredibly proud to now lend my voice to over 35 stations, including our legendary Hot 105.1 FM here at home. Lately, I’ve found a thrilling passion for network promos, sports VO, movie trailers, and narration—and I’m loving every minute.
My decision to start Vanessa James Media stemmed from that pivotal moment in 2010.
I knew I was pursuing a diverse career that spanned voiceover, production, and on-camera work, and all my passions needed to be channeled into one entity. Entrepreneurship became a meaningful way to connect with my peers and create impact beyond the microphone. Running my own company has profoundly shaped my path, molding it into the dynamic, multifaceted media brand it is today—now 15 years strong. Leading with VO while also creating events, telling powerful stories, and developing new projects gives me the freedom to continually evolve my craft, including Food, Wine and Fête, my passion project celebrating our vibrant Caribbean diaspora.
